Two extraordinary vintages, 2014 and 2016. A mild winter, wet spring and fresh summer allowed Mandrarossa’s vines to grow healthily and vigorously, producing characteristic grapes of perfect maturation. Born from these vintages are three top quality wines from Mandrarossa: Timperosse Terre Siciliane IGT, Cavadiserpe Terre Siciliane IGT and Cartagho Sicilia DOC.
The first two are expressions of the immense potential petit verdot, merlot and alicante bouschet have shown in the union with Sicilian terroir. The third, authentically and deeply native to the area, is a 100% nero d’avola with an intense character and imposing structure.
All of the wines have been awarded Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso successively for the last three years.
The most representative wine of Mandrarossa, it comes from vineyards with medium mixed, sandy soils, located 150 meters above sea level and positioned in the immediate vicinity of the town of Menfi (Agrigento). The vineyards’ exposure, from south to southwest, contributes to making soft, aromatic and balanced wines. They are aged for 12 months in small barrels followed by another 4 months in bottle. In the nose there is an intense scent of wild blackberries and sour cherries; Mediterranean notes of dates and a sense of maritime pine are felt in the mouth.
From vines of petit verdot, which grow in sandy soils within the township of Menfi, is born Timperosse, Terre Siciliane IGT. The hot and windy hilltops along with a low rainfall that characterizes the southwestern geography of Sicily lends itself to these grapes, from compact cluster to small black berries, the potential of great development on the vine and in the bottle. Timperosse, 100% petit verdot, has vitality, soft tannins, and the scents of prune, rosemary and sage. In the mouth it is fresh with sapidity.
Mandrarossa’s last wine to be awarded with Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso (in its 2018 edition), Cavadiserpe is an innovative and successful combination of 60% alicante bouschet and 40% merlot. A refined red, fermented in steel and matured in small wood barrels for 6 months, it gives off herbaceous, fruity and spicy scents in the nose. The mouthfeel is intense but harmonic. Perfectly paired with an entrée of quality red meats.
