The Menfi area is one of the best in Sicily when it comes to winegrowing. The varied landscape is characterized by a rolling sea of charming green hills. The soils are now sandy, now clayey, now calcareous, with changing colors, differing gradients and exposures, microclimates that change greatly within such short distances, making this area the perfect place for experimentation and research in the vineyard. This is where Mandrarossa grows its many different varieties of grapes, both native and innovative, that can yield unique wines, which often surprise for their pleasantness and distinctive personality. Petit Verdot, Alicante Bouschet, Fiano, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc, absolutely groundbreaking varieties, grow alongside vineyards planted with native grape varieties, such as Nero d’Avola, Grillo and Grecanico, and other international varieties such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chenin Blanc is definitely among the newest and most surprising experimental varieties. Versatile, powerful, full of character, this grape variety adapts well to different climates and soils. Before all others, Mandrarossa believed in the potential of this cultivar, starting thorough research, clonal selection and experimentation. Today, in the Menfi area, Mandrarossa cultivates its Chenin Blanc on medium-textured soils tending to calcareous, at 250 meters above sea level, facing south/south-east. Here, where the climate is hot and dry, the ripe grapes produce wines with intense aromas of ripe apple, honey, lemon, and peach. Thanks to its high acidity and minerality, this cultivar has proven to be perfect for the production of a brut wine, Chenin Blanc Brut di Mandrarossa. A pleasant and refined sparkling wine that best reflects the uniqueness of this area, combining freshness and elegance. Its structure is harmonious, while the effervescence is fine, intense and persistent. On the nose, it is fragrant, with hints of white flowers, apricot. On the palate, it is dry, fresh, and delightfully sapid, and affords pleasant aromatic expressions.
Thanks to its liveliness, Chenin Blanc Brut can be uncorked, to accompany a business lunch or an elegant dinner, but also as an aperitif. It enhances fresh dishes with a delicate structure such as shellfish and seafood, vegetables fritters, salads, pasta salads, appetizers, and sushi and sashimi. It is also excellent with cheese and desserts.
