The SOStain Foundation is launched in Sicily: the President Giuseppe Bursi will represent the cooperatives

A promotion brand of Sicily as a green model at an international level

The SOStain Foundation was recently launched in Sicily with the goal of promoting the sustainability of wine-producing companies and to sensitise wineries to constantly measure and check the impact of their agricultural practices on the territory. This means that even for us at Mandrarossa, working as a team with the other companies and sharing good practices that each of us will adopt to guarantee the respect of the ecosystem, is even more crucial because our President, Giuseppe Bursi, was given an important coordination role for this initiative.

Thanks to this initiative, Sicily will become the first Italian region to develop a sustainability protocol that was created for the producers and their needs, with the goal of pursuing an environmentally friendly development that is socially equal and economically effective.

SOStain becomes a brand to promote Sicily as a green model on an international level. An independent Scientific Committee composed by 5 experts, will define the guidelines that each winery must follow in order to obtain the sustainability logo that can be put on the bottle. The practices that will be examined will include measuring water consumption and the carbon footprint, bottle weight, protecting the biodiversity of the flora and fauna, promoting the territorial capital, energy saving and health of the farmers and consumers.

The SOStain Foundation Sicily will include all the wine-producing companies from the Sicilian territory, whether producers of organic, biodynamic, natural, conventional or other wines. The administration board of the Foundation includes 5 producers that represent the entire world of Sicilian wine: the cooperatives will be represented by our President Giuseppe Bursi, the big companies by Letizia Russo from Feudo Arancio, the small companies that produce biodynamic and natural wines by Arianna Occhipinti and the family companies by Alberto Tasca d’Almerita – also the president of the board of directors – and Alessio Planeta.
