Grillo
Characteristics of the grape
Medium to large grapes with a spherical shape.
Clear skin, thick and consistent, slightly pruinose, golden-yellow color with rust-like spots. Plain and sweet pulp.
Sensory profile of the wine
The wine of this variety is bright and vibrant straw-yellow in color.
Recognizable for its aroma with citrus and floral hints.
To the palate it’s usually fresh and balanced.
Mandrarossa wines produced from this variety
Our Grillo grapes are used for two wines that have the same common origins, but with a very different evolution. The Grillo Costadune is a fresh white wine with typical Sicilian intense aromas of citrus. The other Grillo Mandrarossa, Bertolino Soprano, is produced from 100% chalky soils, which give the wine a marked minerality. However, the 9-month aging in a large cask, make it more structured and complex.
